    Trekkers Tavern Cottages is located at the hilltop on the eastern Ruhija section overlooking Bwindi impenetrable forest. It is one of the most famous parks and home to more than half of the world’s total population of mountain gorillas.

    Trekkers’ Tavern is located 2 kilometers from the Park headquarters past the trading centre of Ikumba. It is 52 kilometers from Kabale town, 44 km from Buhoma section, 462 km from Kampala, the capital of Uganda, and 502 km from Entebbe International Airport (EBB).

    Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to more than half of the world’s total population of mountain gorillas. The Park also has a bewildering variety of other primates, birds, butterflies and a variety of tree species that can be reached within a 20 minutes’ walk from the cottages.

    The major activities in Ruhija section include gorilla tracking and bird watching. There is currently one gorilla group that is open for tracking, that is, the Bitukura group.

    While on your bird watching tour in Ruhija, you will have a chance to see more than 29 of the 34 Albertine endemics. Don’t miss the African Green Broadbill in the Mubwindi swamp, Grauer’s Rush Warbler and many other Albertine rift endemics, which can easily be seen here in Ruhija.

    The Trekkers Tavern Cottages is a perfect place for birders since a variety of Albertine Rift endemics and other special birds can be viewed from the verandas of the cottages. A day walk to the mines offers a chance to see the Spotted Eagle Owl in a day roost, Doherty’s Bushshrike, Mackinnon’s Bushshrike, Red throated Wryneck, Dusky Twinspot, and a variety of Waxbills among others.
