Gorilla Closeup Lodge is surrounded by rainforests, nestled among mountains. The lodge sits on a 40-acre piece of land that shares the boundary with the park. This has made it convenient for mountain gorillas to visit our lodge frequently, especially from the Nkuringo section.

    Accommodation at Gorilla Closeup Lodge

Each of the 6 different types of cottages and rooms has a unique design setup and privacy. English breakfast, three course meals, packed lunches, complimentary tea, organic coffee in rooms, are all served at the lodge. The lodge offers free room service and free Wi-Fi internet connection for those who may want to stay in touch with their loved ones.

All cottages are ecologically built in harmony with nature, using local materials.

Gorilla Closeup Lodge is owned by a local Ugandan whose grandfather was born in Bwindi impenetrable forest and later shifted his family to the boundary of the forest. It is managed by the local community as staff members, which are reformed former park poachers.

It’s a new lodge built in memory of Dr. Diana Fossey, honoring her great work in researching about mountain gorillas. It also features Dr. George Schaller, the author of the Mountain Gorilla Kingdom book and the first researcher on mountain gorillas in 1959, when he first visited Bwindi.

These two first great researchers used the premises where the lodge is built as their base and accommodation during that period of research 1959-1963. This was of its short proximity to the main road and Bwindi forest.
